It Is Not Me, It Is We

A volunteer organization with no paid staff cannot do any of this alone. Every program on this site exists because a business, a school, an agency, or a neighbor said yes.

People helping people, with no corporate influence in between.

Why Partnership Matters

We Do Not Do This Alone

Bestowing the Basics is entirely volunteer-driven. We have no paid employees and no corporate parent. What we do have is a network of partners who lend us space, product, expertise, transport, and trust.

A grocery chain that would rather feed people than fill a dumpster. A cafe that opens on a Friday evening in January. A fire station that lets a pantry stand beside it. A school nurse who tells us what her students actually need. That is the whole machine.

The ABC Food Bank building on North Third Street in Athol

Athol · Since the beginningABC Food Bank

30355 N Third Street, Athol — open Tuesdays, 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 3 PM. We make deliveries every week of the year, and help host collection drives, plan events, and keep the shelves stocked.

We are grateful to Charlotte and her team of volunteers, who welcome our help and make the arrangement work.

Shortly after they opened, we formed a partnership aimed at avoiding waste and feeding neighbors who need it. Every Tuesday, and any time they call, we collect hundreds of items and route them to the food bank and directly to families.

In the first three years of that partnership alone, over $150,000 worth of goods has gone back into our community.

The Athol Community Center hosts the majority of our outreach events through the year, and keeps one of our donation bins.

The free Careywood Community Pantry — open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to anyone who needs it — was made possible by partnering with these two. One built her, the other gave her a home beside the fire station.

Period pouch supplies organized for distribution to schools

Lakeland 272 · Coeur d’AlenePeriod Positive Program

All 11 schools in the Lakeland 272 School District receive period pouches, and Lakeland elementary nurses use them in their annual 5th grade Growth and Development class. Timberlake Middle School took our first free hygiene cart in April 2024. The program now reaches Coeur d’Alene as well.

At Athol Elementary, school counselor Heather Hamilton works with us to get Emergency Aid to families hit by sudden hardship.
